Hi, I’m Zoe.
I’m forty, married, a mum, occasionally organised, frequently overthinking, usually late and currently somewhere between reinventing my life and having a very elaborate midlife crisis.
On paper, I’m fairly ordinary.
I do school runs, meal planning, laundry, life admin and all the invisible little jobs that somehow keep a household moving. I help my husband with his business, attempt to maintain a social life and spend far too much time thinking about where we should go on holiday next.
But there’s another side to my life too.
My husband and I are in an open marriage, we’re part of the swinging scene, and somewhere along the way my life became a slightly ridiculous mixture of family holidays, date nights, sex clubs, emotional plot twists, cocktails, grief, marriage, friendships and trying to work out who the hell I am now I’ve turned forty.
Hence the blog.
Zoe’s Modern Life is my little corner of the internet for the things women are apparently supposed to keep to themselves.
I write about marriage, motherhood, swinging, sex, travel, friendships, body confidence, grief, questionable decisions and the strange experience of realising that getting older doesn’t necessarily make you more sensible.
Sometimes the posts are funny.
Sometimes they’re filthy.
Sometimes they’re sad.
And occasionally I’ll probably write 2,000 words about something that could have been dealt with by simply going to bed.
I’m not here pretending to have everything figured out.
Quite the opposite.
This is just the secret diary of a not-so-average housewife trying to live a life that actually feels like hers.
Same girl.
More interesting thoughts.
Welcome to Zoe’s Modern Life.
Names and identifying details may be changed because, despite writing a public diary about my private life, I do still have some sense of self-preservation.
All stories are told from my own perspective, based on my experiences, memories and interpretation of events.
